We carry two varieties: “Nopal de Castilla” and “Nopal Verdulero”.
DE CASTILLA:
It has a distinctive sour flavor. Its deep green color and its soft thorns make it a favorite. This type of nopal is available year round because it is a native of the warm, Tamaulipas regions.
NOPAL VERDULERO:
This type is grown in cool climate regions such as D.F. and Puebla. It is also green in appearance, but its thorns are rough and big. It has a non-sour/mild flavor.

PROPERTIES:
The cactus (nopal) is rich in calcium, potassium, phosphorous, sodium, vitamin C, and fiber. Its medicinal uses are various. People have used cactus to treat symptoms associated to colds, burns, bladder inflamations-to name a few. Close to 100 different cactus types, of the 2,000 that belong to the cacti family, receive the generic name of “nopales”.The succulent and flat stems (pencas) have the shape of a racquet and exhibit strong and smooth thorns. The “nopales” store great amounts of nutritional juices. The cactus’s flowers come in an array of colors such as red, pink, yellow, orange or green.
